The newest sport sedan is ready to hit the stage.
Years ago, the idea of a performance-oriented Lexus was a far-fetched idea that would easily illicit laughter. Their bland Toyota roots and unmatched reliability gave them the stigma of being plush appliances to get from point-A to point-B. Now, things have changed. No longer is a performance-tuned Lexus a head scratcher and cars like the LFA and IS F helped pave the way.
At the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the new Lexus GS F sedan will be rolling onto the stage with some exciting features that will surely give some competition to its German and American counterparts. The new Lexus GS F will join the high-performance “F” line alongside the RC F Coupe as the Japanese automaker looks to inject even more adrenaline into its lineup.
The new Lexus GS F sedan boasts a new, naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 engine that utilizes both Otto and Atkinson combustion cycles to maximize both power and efficiency. Output is pegged at 467 horsepower (473 PS) at 7,100 RPM and 389 lb-ft. of torque (527 Nm) from 4,800 to 5,600 RPM. The mighty V-8 is paired up with an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual-shifting capabilities and very quick gear changes for quick and smooth driving dynamics.
Although the Lexus GS F utilizes the same platform as its GS 350 F Sport sibling, it comes packed with a host of performance features that allow it to carve up corners. The brand’s innovative Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) that is also found in the RC F Coupe, helps to maximize grip and control. The TVD system offers three modes: ‘Standard’ with the best of both worlds; ‘Slalom’ for quick steering response and handling; and ‘Track’ for maximum control, traction, and dynamics.
Other aspects such as the reinforced structure, tailored and tuned suspension, brakes, wheels, body work, and more have been designed specifically for the Lexus GS F compared to the rest of the model range. The result is a luxury sport sedan that can provide a supple ride quality with focused dynamics and the power to back it all up.
The new Lexus GS F will make its debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show on Tuesday, January 13th at 8:40 am EST in the Cobo Center. Official pricing and specifications have not been released.
