A designer’s first car from Maranello.
We all remember buying our first real car that we saved up and wanted for quite some time. It’s something that every automotive enthusiast treasures as it represents their hard work, and is a great source of pride. Unfortunately, these cars don’t always stay in our possession for one reason or another, and sometimes come up for sale many years down the road.
That’s exactly what has happened to the first Ferrari owned by Afzal Kahn. At the upcoming auction at Bonhams, the 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello Coupé Chassis no. ZFFZR49C000111360 formerly owned by Afzal Kahn will be up for bid.
The Ferrari 550 Maranello Coupé brought back the classic front-engined Grand Touring proportions not seen from the Italian automaker since the Daytona. The 550, just like the Daytona, was designed by Pininfarina with its aerodynamics taking shape in a wind tunnel. Numerous air scoops and outlets were integrated into the body and components were added to provide consistent downforce.
Powering the Grand Tourer was a four-cam 5.5-liter V12 engine with 485bhp at 7,000rpm and used a six-speed transaxle layout inside a tubular steel chassis. Advanced components such as independent suspension with dual-mode damping that could be adjusted by the driver helped to make it a superb performer on the track.
The 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello Coupé Chassis no. ZFFZR49C000111360 was originally bought by Afzal Kahn from JCT600 after it was imported to the UK by Maranello Concessionaires Ltd. The current owner purchased the car so that it could be displayed as a museum piece. The listing will come complete with its accompanying service booklet that was last stamped in 2009 and has 45,180 miles on the odometer. Three expired MoT certificates, a Swansea V5C document, and MoT to July 2013. The listing is estimated to sell for £32,000 – 36,000/ €41,000 – 46,000/ $ 51,000 – 57,000.
