The new Porsche 911 Turbo S: when the Turbo just isn’t enough.
Powering the flagship 911 is the twin-turbocharged, 3.8-liter six-cylinder boxer engine. The two exhaust gas turbochargers utilize variable turbine geometry (VTG) which virtually eliminates turbo lag, resulting in an exceptional throttle response. Power is increased by 30 bhp over the standard 911 Turbo, to 530 bhp. Torque is boosted to 516 lb-ft. and is available from 2,100 to 4,250 RPM, allowing for a meaty powerband. Dynamic engine mounts are standard on the Turbo S, and are electronically controlled to provide optimum stiffness depending on the driving style. Although the Turbo S benefits from a performance increase, it does not suffer from an increase in fuel consumption, achieving a combined 24.8 mpg.
Performance of the 997.2 Turbo S is nothing short of astonishing, accelerating to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds and reaching 124 mph in just 10.8 seconds. Acceleration on the highway is effortless, as the Turbo S sprints from 50 to 75 mph in just two seconds. Top speed is a whopping 196 mph for both the Coupé and Cabriolet models.
The 997.2 Turbo S will only be offered with the tongue-twisting Porsche-
Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK), seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. All 530 bhp will reach the road through the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive. Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) and a mechanical rear differential provide optimum handling and driving dynamics, making the Turbo S a thoroughbred sportscar.
New 19-inch RS Spyder design wheels with a central locking mechanism are standard on the 997.2 Turbo S, and create an athletic appearance. Shining through the wheels are the yellow calipers of the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB). These brakes offer unmatched stopping power and are incredibly resistant to brake fade.
Inside, the 997.2 Turbo S features exclusive two-tone leather upholstery available in either Black and Titanium Blue or Black and Cream. Adaptive sports seats are standard along with a three-spoke sports steering wheel with PDK paddles, and a CD/DVD changer. Turbo S logos are featured on the tachometer, upper part of air cleaner, and the door entry guards.
The Porshce 911 Turbo S will be available as either a Coupé or Cabriolet model in May, and will come standard will the high-tech options available on the Turbo models. Pricing for both the Coupé and Cabriolet has only been released for the German market. The Coupé starts at € 173,241 (19 per cent value-added tax and local equipment in the market), while the Cabriolet starts at € 184,546 (19 per cent value-added tax and local equipment in the market).
