In 1963, the “Gran Turismo Sport” name graced the iconic Porsche 904 Carrera GTS. The “GTS” letters meant that it offered unrivaled driving performance and characteristics and the epitome of sport in the German automaker’s lineup. Since then, the nameplate has graced the Cayenne, Panamera, and 911, and now it has made its way onto the Porsche Boxster and Cayman, transforming them into even better mid-engined driver’s cars than they were before.
The new Porsche Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS models both gain some new styling additions and performance goodies that make things a whole lot more fun for those behind the wheel. The 3.4-liter flat-six engines that power the two models were each tuned and given a boost of 15 horsepower and 7 lb-ft. of torque. This means that the Cayman GTS spits out 340 horsepower at 7,400 RPM and 280 lb-ft. of torque while the Boxster GTS cranks out 330 horsepower at 6,700 RPM and 273 lb-ft. of torque. Each engine also comes strapped with an adjustable exhaust system with dual centrally-mounted tailpipes in black for a more ferocious flat-six sound.
Armed with the newly tuned engines, the Porsche Boxster GTS can accelerate to 62 mph in just 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 175 mph. The more powerful Cayman GTS is capable of reaching the 62 mph mark in just 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 177 mph, successfully one-upping its ragtop sibling. All the figures however, are the result of the super-fast-shifting seven-speed PDK transmission and the standard Sport Chrono package, not the traditional manual gearbox.

The two cars also visually differentiate themselves using more than higher output engines and three letters on their butts. The front fascias of the Porsche Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS have larger, more aggressive air intakes beneath tinted bi-xenon headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) standard. The special Carmine Red exterior paint is contrasted by black elements that are featured throughout the exteriors and run towards the rear where they’re met by black ‘GTS’ lettering and tinted taillights.
All of the fun Porsche electronic aids and goodies that are normally reserved for the pricey option boxes come standard on the Boxster and Cayman GTS models. The Sport Chrono package, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), all work together to provide the most dynamic ride possible and can be altered at the push of a button for sport or comfort. Rounding things out are standard 20-inch black-finished, ten-spoke Carrera S wheels.
Inside, the exclusiveness continues. Both the Porsche Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS receive sports seats trimmed in black leather with Carmine Red or Rhodium stitching and alcantara accents. The Porsche CDR audio system with seven-inch touchscreen is standard while backup camera, BOSE audio system, and ParkAssist can be had as options along with the long list of custom-tailored parts that come with every vehicle from the German automaker.
The new Porsche Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS will be available around the world in May, 2014 with pricing for international markets being released at a later date.
