Motorsports comes back to Crewe.
Bentley was once a motorsports power house, participating in various racing series and endurance competitions while achieving a great deal of success, especially in the late 1920s and early ‘30s. The last Bentley to compete and win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans was the Speed 8 back in 2003; the marquee’s sixth such achievement.
Since then, the Bentley has been known for its ultra-luxury cars packed with buttery smooth powerhouses. But the British automaker is looking to change that with the new Bentley Continental GT3 race car.
The new Bentley Continental GT3 builds upon the incredible performance of the GT Speed model and boasts a stripped-down interior with roll cage and other motorsports technology. An aerodynamic package dramatically increases downforce and high-speed stability while incorporating side exhaust outlets that emit a frightening roar. The rear-wheel drive chassis strays from the standard all-wheel drive setups in today’s production cars.
The new Bentley Continental GT3 is set up to meet FIA GT3 requirements and is currently being developed and produced at the company’s headquarters in Crewe, England. The British automaker is looking to return to motorsports in late 2013 and the Continental GT3 will be eligible for a variety of series including 24-hour endurance races. Each Continental GT3 will be outfitted with special livery that emphasizes the muscular aerodynamic bodywork and the Union flag.
The availability and pricing for the new Bentley Continental GT3 race car has not been announced. Expect the newest race car from Crewe to compete in a variety of FIA series around the globe in 2014.
