Just over 20 percent better than stock.
SKN Tuning has unveiled their latest tuning program for the BMW 1 Series M Coupe. The small performance coupe gains over 20 percent more power thanks to the Swiss tuning experts along with other upgrades that improve the chassis’ dynamics and agility.
So what makes this SKN 1 M Coupe about 20 percent better than the standard model? Well, to start things off, it has over 20 percent more power. The 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine was equipped with an upgraded intercooler with better efficiency and the ECU was tweaked with a new software program. This helped to increase boost and optimize the inner workings of the engine throughout the rev range resulting in a total of 417 horsepower and 428 lb-ft. of torque. The engine was capable of producing even more torque, but for reliability reasons it had to be electronically limited along with the top speed, which is set at 186 mph. As an option, SKN Tuning can install a number of stainless steel Akrapovic exhaust systems ranging from the pre-catalytic converter setup to the flap-controlled system with rear muffler and tailpipes in titanium or carbon fiber.
After the engine upgrades, the SKN 1 M Coupe was fitted with chassis tuning goodies to make it more potent on the racetrack. A set of Bilstein coilovers were installed on the front and rear axles, resulting in an overall lowering of the 1 M Coupe by 10 – 35 mm depending on the driver’s specification. In addition to the lowered setup, customers also have the ability to adjust the setups by hand without the use of tools or a lift to obtain optimum handling for a specific track or road.
The standard wheel and tire setup was kept on the SKN 1 M Coupe but customers do have the option of upgrading the stock braking system. New Mov’it brakes with 380 mm perforated steel discs with six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, and stainless steel brake lines can be installed and also optioned with ceramic discs for even more stopping power.
All of the upgrades on the SKN 1 M Coupe are currently available for the small BMW performance coupe. Pricing for the upgrades has not been released.
