Brabus has been making monsters of Mercedes-Benz vehicles for years and their latest to benefit from the 850 6.0 Biturbo engine is the mighty G63 AMG SUV. The beefed up SUV also received a new Brabus Widestar widebody kit, new wheels, and all the interior appointments that one could ask for.
The mighty Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo had only been used in the CLS-, E-, SL-, and S-Class models until engineers decided the G63 needed more power. So, they increased the displacement of the 5,461 cc twin-turbocharged V-8 in the stock G63 AMG up to 5,912 cc by installing larger forged pistons, boring out the cylinders, adding in a new crankshaft, piston rods, and also modifying both cylinder heads. Both factory turbochargers were replaced with larger units, new exhaust manifolds were added, and the intake and intercooler pipes were wrapped with special “Gold Heat Reflection” sheathing.
A special air intake system on the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Widestar was developed and utilizes a new clear-coated carbon fiber hood scoop with air deflection system to draw in fresh air. On the other end of the combustion process, the exhaust system was replaced with a completely new setup with metal converters and butterfly valves controlled via the cockpit. Two dual tailpipes exit prior to the rear wheels on either side of the SUV.
After a software remap, the 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 produces a whopping 850 horsepower (838 bhp) at 5,400 RPM and 1,069 lb-ft. of torque from 2,500 to 3,500 RPM. This sends the all-wheel drive SUV to 62 mph in just 4.0 seconds, flat, despite its massive 5,622-lb. curb weight. The top speed is also pushed back to 160 mph but limited for the sake of tires.
Distinguishing the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Widestar from the rest of the G-Class models is its imposing body kit highlighted by the set of fender flares that add 12 cm of width to the SUV. Up front sits a new spoiler installed on the factory bumper with new LED lights while the carbon fiber, ventilated hoot sits atop. Tinted xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights can also be added.
The new Widestar front and rear fenders also feature a new LED light system that’s illuminated by keyless remote and illuminate the running boards. At the rear, a new bumper with central reflector, LED fog lights, and LED backup lights makes its presence felt. As an option, customers can choose to have a new roof spoiler installed on their Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Widestar.
Below the mighty fender flares sit new Brabus Monoblock Platinum Edition forged wheels measuring 11.0J x 23 at the front and rear axles. Four different designs of the wheel are available in addition to Continental, Pirelli, or Yokohama tires measuring 305/35 R23.
Besides the engine, the other innovation in the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Widestar is the Ride Control suspension. The system was designed in cooperation with Bilstein and features automatic damper adjustment, power-adjustable shock absorbers, and two selectable settings to allow for a comfortable or sporty ride.
Inside, Brabus got all sorts of high-tech with the 850 6.0 Biturbo Widestar. The entire interior is covered in soft Brabus Masktik leather and alcantara as well as stainless steel illuminated scuff plates, velour floor mats, door pins, and aluminum foot pedals.
Two new seats from the Mercedes-Benz S-Class are positioned in the rear for passenger comfort and an integrated multimedia system is integrated into the transmission tunnel. The system is trimmed in leather and wood and works with a 15.6-inch LCD screen to display all sorts of multimedia entertainment. Rear passengers can also control the system as well as the lighting in the rear cabin.
The new Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Widestar based on the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG will be shown for the first time to the public at the IAA 2015 in Frankfurt. Pricing has not been released.
