It’s no question that the Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the coolest automotive events of the year as racing and road cars, new and old, show off, race, and compete to be the fastest on the hill climb course. This year, a new car is wearing the crown of being the fastest road-legal car on the track – the McLaren P1 LM.
The McLaren P1 LM is the road-legal version of the utterly mental P1 GTR racer. Made by the British company, Lanzante, the P1 LM keeps the 986-horsepower powertrain tuned to work with regular pump fuel, added carbon fiber, cut a few racing bits, and made it all road-legal.
At the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the McLaren P1 LM set a record as the fastest road-going car to ever race at the event, clocking an incredible 47.07-second time for the 1.1-mile road. That time was good enough to make it the second-fastest car, only losing to an actual racecar.
