Forward thrust engaged.
The 86th Geneva International Motor Show played host to quite a few fast cars, some of which were proudly on display at stand 2045, Hall 2 at the MTM – Motoren Technik Mayer display. Other than the MTM S8 Talladega R, the MTM RS3 R took control as a high-powered hot hatch with its dark grey paint and potent engine.
“The Geneva Motor Show is all about Springtime – if not in the meteorological sense, then certainly for the Automobile world,” said Roland Mayer, CEO of the Wettstetten-based MTM GmbH. “After the winter lull, people are keen to flashes of spring sunlight and innovative ideas.”
That sunlight and innovation is featured throughout the new MTM RS3 R. The once-stock Audi RS3 and its 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five was boosted up thanks to a new in-house turbocharger with downpipe, performance intercooler, software tune, and cat-back stainless steel exhaust ending in two oval chrome or black ceramic tailpipes.
Thanks to the new engine upgrades, the MTM RS3 R produces 502 horsepower at 6,600 RPM and 479 lb-ft. of torque from 2,250 to 5,750 RPM. That allows the all-wheel drive beast to reach 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and 124 mph in 13.1 seconds. Top speed is approximately 186 mph depending on what type of tires are fitted.
Power is transferred to the road thanks to new 265/30 ZR19 front and 235/35 ZR19 rear Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires on the 8.5 x 19 and 9.5 x 19 front and rear MTM Nardo Edition wheels. The MTM RS3 R also gains a new set of 380 x 34 mm brake discs for better stopping power that can be had with specially-coated and engraved calipers. MTM also offers up a performance suspension for better handling dynamics for the hot hatch as well.
Visually, things don’t get too exotic on the MTM RS3 R, rather they are geared towards functionality. A front spoiler wing pairs nicely with the MTM rear diffuser and factory rear spoiler to improve high-speed stability. New carbon fiber side mirror caps add a touch of style and speed.
The interior of the MTM RS3 R is geared towards performance-oriented driving with a custom-tailored touch. The two front RS6-style front seats wear a special honey-comb stamping and MTM logos that is also applied to the rear set of seats as well. The center console, door panels, and arm rest also bear the special honeycomb stamping.
The new MTM RS3 R based on the Audi RS3 is currently available for 94,396 as a complete vehicle, including warranty, tax, and installation fees.
