After ten years, it’s time for a return.
It’s been ten years since the Viper was sprinting through the 8.46-mile long Circuit de la Sarthe. At the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans, the legendary snake will make its return to the world’s greatest endurance race with the hopes of taking the checkered flag.
The Viper dominated competition over ten years ago at Le Mans and the new SRT Motorsports Viper GTS-R is looking to regain that success. When the SRT Viper was unveiled last year, the automaker made a commitment to racing in the American Le Mans Series. This year has been full of ups and downs for the SRT Motorsports teams and their two SRT Viper GTS-Rs, but its all part of the ongoing learning experience as teams make adjustments and get more and more comfortable with their machines.
This year, the SRT Motorsports team will be competing with the No. 53 Viper GTS-R driven by Ryan Dalziel (SCO), Dominik Farnbacher (DEU), and Marc Goossens (BEL), along with the No. 93 SRT Motorsports Viper GTS-R driven by Jonathan Bomarito (USA), Tom Kendall (USA), and Kuno Wittmer(CAN). Both cars will be competing in the LM GTE Pro class and look to not only survive all 24 hours, but come away with a victory.
