When I was three years old, I don’t think I was making great strides in anything. I wasn’t exceptionally cute or talented or advanced. Unlike me, Dutch company Vencer hasn’t wasted any time in its three years of existence in becoming an exceptional and attractive supercar manufacturer.
Their first ingenious strategy was to show off their Vencer Sarthe (the “Circuit de la Sarthe” track is most likely the inspiration behind the name) in, of all places, Monaco last April. The newest car is scheduled to appear at Salon Privé this year. What better places to preview your supercars?
The low-volume supercar is designed around a rigid tubular steel chassis. The Sarthe has a V8 that develops 510 hp and 480 lb-ft. of torque of unknown displacement and 6-speed manual gearbox. Chrome and aluminum help keep the Sarthe’s weight at 3064 lbs. The Vencer Sarthe also has a 45-percent front and 55-percent rear weight distribution. Vencer says the Sarthe is capable of 62 mph in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 203 mph.
The Sarthe is 3.94 ft tall, 6.2 feet wide and 14.7 feet long. For comparison, consider that it is slightly longer and taller than a Lamborghini Gallardo.
Many may disagree with my assessment of the styling. I see a little Saleen S7, a little Mosler MT900 at the front, a little GTA Spano at the back with bits of Lotus Elise sprinkled here and there. The scissor doors bolster the exotic theme. Although the materials and design are present day, the design pays homage to those Le Mans racers from eras past.
Inside, there are leather seats and steering wheel, and carbon fiber on the dashboard. The brushed aluminum on the air vents and shifter add to a look that’s normal for a supercar until you get to the gauges – or lack thereof. Vencer’s CIS (Central Info System) is a customizable multitasking digital of speed, fuel, revs, mileage, system info and temperature.
