Getting the update.

It seems like just yesterday Porsche was unveiling the new 991-generaiton 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S Coupe and Convertible models. Time flies fast, especially when you’re having so much fun with a boosted super car, and the newly-updated 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S Coupe and Convertible models are here with more power and fun.

911 Turbo S

Many of the design and styling updates seen on the new 911 Carrera models have made their way to the new 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S. The wide look of the super cars are emphasized with the new front fascia sporting thin LED lights with double fillets, and an extra fin inside the center air intake. The fat fenders with the large intakes at the rear now house wider 9.0J x 20 front and 11.5J x 20 rear wheels – 0.5 inches wider than before for the 911 Turbo.

At the rear of the new Turbo models is the retro styling as seen on the new Carreras. The classic vertical louvres on the rear engine cover pay homage to its predecessors however, there is an extra cover to improve air induction for the engine. New three-dimensional taillights with four-point brake lights create an impressive visual display at rest.

Under the hood is where the real fun begins. In the Porsche 911 Turbo, the 3.8-liter, twin-turbocharged flat-six engine gains new inlet ports inside the cylinder head, and new fuel injector nozzles coupled with a higher pressure. That results in an impressive 540 horsepower. Armed with that boost, the 911 Turbo S Coupe can accelerate to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono package and reach a top speed of 198 mph.

The Porsche 911 Turbo S on the other hand, gains a new pair of turbochargers with larger compressors to generate more boost pressure. That’s good for a total of 580 horsepower. The increase in power allows the 911 Turbo S to accelerate to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds with the Sport Chrono package and reach 205 mph.

Both engines also feature a new innovative dynamic boost function to improve response. The charge pressure generated by the turbochargers is maintained thanks to a brief pause in the fuel injection process with the throttle valve open. This virtually eliminates any kind of lag or delay associated with traditional turbocharged engines.

Both models will be available with a host of electronic driving aids to make things more engaging and improve performance. The standard 360 mm GT sport steering wheel was inspired by the 918 Spyder and features a mode switch that allows drivers to select different driving modes. Models with the Sport Chrono package include a Sport Response button on the steering wheel that arms the drivetrain for optimal response and can provide utmost acceleration for up to 20 seconds.
