Proving that you don’t need the new “GT” to have fun.
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was all the rage when it was first introduced as it brought back the iconic design of the 300 SL with a modern twist. The Roadster variant gave drivers the opportunity to enjoy the retro styling with an open top. But then Mercedes-Benz unveiled the SLS AMG GT, which offered up even more performance, power, and technology than the first SLS models. But, who needs the new, upgraded model when there is the supercharged Väth SLS AMG Roadster?
The 6.2-liter hand-built AMG V-8 in the SLS AMG Roadster received a big upgrade in power with the new Väth supercharger upgrade. The German tuner threw on a new supercharger along with a pair of high-flowing air intakes and then tuned the ECU to accommodate the new boost pressure flowing into each cylinder. To get all of the exhaust gasses out in a quick, efficient manner, a new high-flow stainless steel exhaust system with or without a catalytic converter was installed. To handle the extra power generated by the wailing supercharger, the gearbox oil cooler was upgraded.
The result of the Väth SLS AMG Roadster supercharger upgrade is a whopping 692 horsepower (702 PS) and 627 lb-ft. of torque pounding the pavement. The added power is good for a 3.6-second 0-62 mph time and a top speed of 205 mph.
Much of the exterior was upgraded to accommodate for the higher top speed and acceleration of the super car. The front spoiler, rear trunk spoiler, side skirts and brake ventilation ducts have been installed in full carbon fiber. Väth Automobiltechnik also upgraded the wheels with new three-piece forged rims with a black face and polished outer lip. The wheels were installed in a 9.5 x 20 front and 12.0 x 20 rear setup with 265/30/20 front and 315/25/20 rear performance tires.
The chassis of the supercharged Väth SLS AMG Roadster is more dynamic and precise in the turns than ever before. New threaded sport springs can be installed on all models with the AMG Ride Control function along with the Väth nose-lift system that can raise the front of the super car by 40 mm to avoid obstacles. The springs also work along with the Ride Control to electronically adjust the dampers in terms of stiffness and can lower the overall ride height by 20 to 45 mm. The brakes have been upgraded with 405 mm steel discs for greater stopping power and paired up with braided steel lines.
Inside, the Väth supercharged SLS AMG Roadster features a new steering wheel that can be fitted with leather, wood, or carbon fiber. The speedometer also can be replaced with a 400 km/h (249 mph) unit.
The Väth supercharger upgrade for the SLS AMG Roadster is available for 85,130 Euros including tax. Individual upgrades are also available for the drop-top super car.
