Two track stars battle it out.
The Caterham R500 is a lightweight, track star that is known for its precise handling and driving characteristics. It’s powered by a tuned 2.0-liter Ford Duratec engine that produces 263 bhp and 177 lb-ft. of torque. Couple that with a 1,113 lb weight, and you have yourself a rocket ship that can accelerate to 60 mph in 2.88 seconds and reach a top speed of 150 mph.
What makes the Caterham R500 special is that it is able to keep up with the big name super cars during races and track events. Take the Ferrari F430 Scuderia in the video for example. It’s also a lightweight, performance oriented car designed for track use. However, it boasts almost double the amount of horsepower (508 hp), and its engine has twice as many cylinders. It’s capable of a 3.6 second 0-62 mph time and a 198 mph top speed.
So when this video popped up of a Caterham R500 chasing down a Ferrari F430 Scuderia, there was no doubt in our minds that the “little Caterham that could” would keep up and eventually pass.
Listen to that exhaust note!
