Let’s welcome the new guy.
The Lamborghini Aventador is one of the hottest newcomers on the super car scene. It boasts an all-new 6.5-liter V-12 engine, seven-speed automated manual transmission, and utilizes a number of lightweight materials to make it every bit as intimidating as that gold raging bull on the front hood.
So what better way to welcome the new guy than a drag race?
To see just how fast the new Lamborghini Aventador is, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren lined up beside it on the drag strip. One heavyweight from the first decade of the 21st century lined up on one side of the track, and the brand new bull on the other.
On paper the Lamborghini Aventador seems to have an advantage in terms of power as the V-12 produces 690 bhp and 510 lb-ft. of torque, while the SLR makes 617 horsepower and 580 lb-ft. of torque. The acceleration numbers however, are similar. The SLR can sprint to 62 mph in just over three seconds while the Aventador comes in at just a hair under three with the help of its all-wheel drive system. Watch the video and see who wins the race.
