Don’t go doing this at home, kids!
Back in December, Hennessey Performance brought their tuned Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to a Texas Toll Road and went 200.6 mph to break in the fresh, new asphalt. While they were hitting record runs with the Corvette Stingray, their supercharged HPE600 Chevrolet SS was busy helping the Texas DOT and State Police test out some equipment with a top speed run.
The 6.2-liter V-8 engine that powers the Chevrolet SS gained a healthy dose of boost thanks to the Hennessey Performance HPE600 supercharger upgrade. The kit includes a TVS2300 supercharger, HPE pulley, new air induction system, high-flow fuel injectors, a fuel system upgrade, and other goodies for a total of 600 bhp at 6,300 RPM.
This was good enough to send the supercharged Chevrolet SS to a 163 mph top speed that was limited only by the car’s gearing on the new Texas toll road. As part of the test, a Dodge Challenger State Trooper vehicle clocked the Chevrolet SS during its high-speed run to make sure it’s radar worked properly.
