“We Talkin’ ‘Bout Practice.”
While the Nürburgring is in the middle of its production car testing hiatus, other famous tracks such as Spa-Francorchamps are playing home to manufacturers like Koenigsegg, that want to test their cars and see what kind of performance can be achieved.
Earlier in June, Koenigsegg put down a very impressive 2:33.26 lap at Spa-Francorchamps, which was almost a full 5.0 seconds faster than any production car on the same track. This past week, Koenigsegg went back to Spa for more testing and they were able to get an even better time.
On the first day of testing, the Koenigsegg One:1 was run on the track to practice for the following day, which would be used to push the car to its absolute limits. The only issue was that the sound limits were 110 dB on day 1 and 103 dB on day 2.
So, on the first day, their practice run yielded a crazy 2:32.14 time on the same Michelin tires that are given to customers – even though these were a bit worn from other track days.
Before the second day runs, Koenigsegg tried to alter the exhaust system to reduce the noise levels, but were flagged for exceeding the 103 dB limit and forced to retire.
While the 2:32.14 time is good for a full 6.0 seconds faster than any production car at Spa-Francorchamps, ever, the Koenigsegg team believes that they can achieve an even faster time.
