Supercharging the SLS.
In the winter months, the last thing on driver’s minds is a roadster. After all, the bitter cold and snow don’t exactly make a great drop-top driving experience. But the folks at WheelsandMore have had the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster on their minds and dynometer during the winter months as they have unveiled a Stage II and Stage III upgrade program for the engine along with some chassis goodies that will have you anxiously waiting for the snow to melt.
During the winter months, the top was down and the hood was up on the SLS AMG Roadster at WheelsandMore. The team designed two upgrade packages for the naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 engine. The Stage II program includes a stainless steel exhaust system with sport catalytic converters and flap-controlled exhaust system to optimize backpressure, sport air filters, and a new software tune to push output up to 635 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. of torque. Stage III includes all of the fun stuff from Stage II along with a new supercharger system that brings power up to 704 horsepower and 631 lb-ft. of torque. An SLS AMG Roadster equipped with Stage III is capable of accelerating to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h).
Even though there was snow on the ground, the WheelsandMore team decided that the SLS AMG Roadster still needed a new chassis setup and stance. The classic handmade three-piece 6Sporz ² in-house forged wheels were installed in a 9.0 x 21 front and 11.5 x 21 rear setup with 245/30/21 and 305/25/21 performance tires. Complementing the new forged wheels and adding a touch of dynamics is a set of ultra-lightweight aluminum coilovers with adjustable rebound and compression to suit any given track or road. As an option, customers can order a LCS coilover system that raises the front and rear axles by 40 mm at the touch of a button to overcome obstacles.
