The rear-wheel drive rocket ship.
The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is essentially the most hardcore performance version of the 911 available for street use. Its 3.6-liter was tweaked for power and every little aspect was modified to improve the overall performance. The super car was limited to just 500 units, but was immediately sold out even with its $300,000 price tag.
Now Wimmer RST is showing off its new 1,000+ horsepower 911 GT2 RS tuning program that builds upon their previous 911 GT2 RS upgrade program. The German company completely modified the twin-turbocharged flat-six engine and upgraded the chassis to handle the extra power.
The 3.6-liter, twin-turbocharged flat-six packed into the rear of the super car was taken to the next level of performance by Wimmer RST. The team installed a new set of turbochargers to create more boost, optimized the air intake system to improve the spool time, and retuned the engine control unit to compensate. A new sports crankshaft and sports camshafts were fitted along with a new timing chain, machined cylinder heads, pistons and connecting rods, and a fuel pump system. A pair of new exhaust manifolds with bypass system and 200-cell sport catalytic converters was installed to reduce backpressure as much as possible.
The end result of the 911 GT2 RS tuning program was an incredible 1,020 horsepower at 7,340 RPM and 817.11 lb-ft. of torque at 5,680 RPM. This helps turn the rear-wheel drive super car into a rocket ship as it reaches 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, 120 mph in 8.7 seconds, and 180 mph in 15.5 seconds, with a top speed of 241.71 mph (389 km/h).
In order to handle the incredible amount of power being produced by the 3.6-liter engine, Wimmer RST had to upgrade the chassis of the GT2 RS. The standard wheels were replaced with custom designed 19-inch, center-locking wheels and performance tires for better traction. The suspension was also modified with a new KW-developed three-way adjustable competition suspension system that improves the overall driving dynamics of the super car.
The last aspect that was undertaken by the German company was enlisting the help of Cam Shaft Premium Car Wrapping to give the 911 GT2 RS a visual makeover. The entire car was wrapped in a new blue film with special black checkered graphics and company logos throughout.
The new Porsche 911 GT2 RS tuning program from Wimmer RST is currently available for all of the 500 production cars that left the factory floor in Germany. Pricing for the entire upgrade program has not been released, but you can bet it will reflect the incredible horsepower output.
