The German tuners slug it out with the CLS63 AMG.
In 2004, Mercedes-Benz rocked the automotive world with the CLS. Marketed and designed as a “four-door coupe”, Mercedes-Benz spawned a new niche in the automotive industry that inspired new vehicles from Audi, Volkswagen, BMW, and even Aston Martin. The second-generation, the W218, sought to carry over C219’s sales success with an improved powertrain. The new CLS63 AMG does just that with an all-new 5.5-liter bi-turbo V-8 engine that has more power and greater efficiency than the outgoing 6.2-liter.
The new CLS63 AMG is packed with potential, which led a number of aftermarket car tuning companies to develop programs that unleashed the mighty 5.5. Carlsson Autotechnik, VÄTH Automotive, and wheelsandmore each unveiled programs for the new Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG. But, which CLS63 AMG tuning program is the best?
Carlsson CK63 RS Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG:
The Carlsson CK63 RS is a complete tuning program for the CLS63 AMG. The CK63 RS engine upgrade gives the 5.5-liter 649 horsepower and 664 lb-ft. of torque, resulting in a 4.1-second 0-62 mph acceleration time. Unique 1/10 five-single and five-double spoke forged wheels are installed along with a fast-reacting C-Tronic suspension module that automatically adjusts the chassis settings. The exterior features carbon fiber front spoilers, a black grille, and rear spoiler and diffuser for improved high-speed stability. Inside, Carlsson allows for the customization of the entire interior with special leather with unique stitching, perforation, or piping designs. Custom-tailored wood grain and carbon fiber can be installed along with aluminum accessories for a truly luxurious atmosphere.

VÄTH Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG:
The VÄTH CLS63 AMG focused mainly on performance, rather than styling. The 5.5-liter was given the V63RS tuning kit with charge air cooler, ECU tune, and stainless-steel sport exhaust for a whopping 660 horsepower and 708 lb-ft. of torque. The added power helps the VÄTH CLS63 AMG reach 62 mph in 3.9 seconds, 124 mph in 12 flat, and hit a top speed of 201.95 mph. New 9 x 20 front and 10.5 x 20 rear three-piece forged wheels, a lowered suspension, and upgraded brake system help make the CLS63 AMG a better overall performer. Aerodynamics are kept to a minimum with a front spoiler, rear spoiler, and rear apron being the only upgrades.

wheelsandmore CLS63 AMG:
The wheelsandmore CLS63 AMG is more about an exclusive wheel and tire fitment rather than outrageous exterior and engine modifications. The tuner installed in-house 6Sporz² lightweight multi-piece forged wheels in a 9 x 20 front and 11.5 x 20 rear fitment with Dunlop SportMaxx tires for greater grip. The fitment was then finished with new suspension upgrades to lower the CLS63 AMG. The 5.5-liter V-8 was given a modest power gain by wheelsandmore from an ECU tune and stainless steel exhaust system. The total output was bumped up to 580 horsepower and 596 lb-ft. of torque.

You Decide!
The three tuning programs all offer horsepower gains, new wheels, and revised suspension systems. The most powerful of the group is the VÄTH program with 660 horsepower, but Carlsson isn’t far off with 649 ponies. The VÄTH CLS63 AMG is also the fastest. In terms of style, wheelsandmore keeps it simple with an exclusive wheel upgrade, while VÄTH and Carlsson utilize front and rear spoilers for a more aggressive appearance and better downforce.
Out of the three tuning programs from Carlsson Autotechnik, VÄTH Automotive, and wheelsandmore, which would you pick as the Best CLS63 AMG Tuning Program?
